Computer Technology Application Key Lab of Yunnan Province

Computer Technology Application Key Lab of Yunnan Province was established by Science and Technology Department of Yunnan Province, Development and Reform Commission of Yunnan Province, Finance Department of Yunnan Province, and managed by the Kunming University of Science and Technology.

During the past three years, the laboratory has been making great progress in program application and processing, team building, personnel training and laboratory management. High performance computing clusters and high speed network facilities were equipped. This development lays a good foundation for scientific research. Our research team is composed of professors and engineers, and most of them are younger than forty-five years old and hold master or doctor degrees of best universities of China or famous institutes of the world. With the efforts of young and powerful scientific research team, the key lab has been rapidly developed and obtains a series of achievements. Many programs are supported by National Nature Science Foundation of China and high quality academic papers are published every year. Meanwhile, international cooperation keeps our researches standing on the high level of computer science and related fields.

 

The college innovation team of ubiquitous and trusted computing technology in Yunnan Province

The ubiquitous computing is a new type of calculation mode, pursuing invisible computing powers everywhere and at every time, which is based on the rapid development and increasingly mature of distributed computing, communication network, mobile computing, embedded system, sensor technology. In this field, our team had gone on with some important developments for three years and obtained the domestic colleague's approval. Our current research works include natural human-computer interaction technology, distributed computing and information processing and software quality assurance.

In the field of human-computer interaction, we issued 6 SCI papers and 7 EI papers last three years and get supported by NSFC. Dr Wang accepted as a SGICHI CHI Reviewer and hired as the frontier lecture lecturer by the China Computer Federation in 2010, which is the first hire for Yunnan scholars.

In the field of distributed processing and calculation, we carried out some applied basic research combing with astronomical and relevant needs of biological information. At present our team has became a famous one in the astronomical information processing area and built a deep cooperation with the national astronomical observatory of Chinese academy of sciences and the Yunnan astronomical observatory of Chinese academy of sciences. After obtaining NSFC in 2009, the research of astronomical informatics is further advanced. Our team undertakes a number of substitute projects from the National Astronomical Observatories and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The applications such as Grid Computing, Science Workflow have been approved by chief researcher Yongheng Zhao, chief engineer Yuanyong Deng, chief researcher Yihua Yan, etc. Our team also undertook the research and development of scientific workflow systems for the national large-scale scientific projects LAMOST, the system custom SPDL language to describe and construct a simple and efficient graphical interface, it provides a processing platform which can fast customization, operation and calculation for scientific computing and distributed processing.

 

The Innovation Team of Trusted Computing of Kunming University of Science and Technology

KUST Key Lab of Intelligent Information Processing
KUST (Kunming University of Science and Technology) Key Laboratory of Intelligent Information Processing is approved to found in 2009. Chief Professor Yu Zhengtao is in charge of the lab.  Currently it has a 50 people research team, including 5 professors, 6 associate professors, 5 lecturers and 8 researchers with a Ph.D. degree.  The lab has about 40 students, including Ph.D. candidates, M.S. candidates, and undergraduates.
The lab actively conducts research in the following areas: information retrieval, information extraction, ASEAN languages and Yunnan minority language information processing, natural language database queries, machine learning, information systems and decision analysis.
Located at the 5th floor of the School of Information Engineering and Automation Building, Chenggong campus, KUST, the lab has a space of more than 300 square meters. It is well equipped. It has software and hardware platforms to support high performance computing, massive storage, information retrieval, and high throughput massive data processing.
In recent 3 years, the lab has undertook more than 40 projects, which include National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Regional Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation, the National SME Innovation Fund, the National Fund of the Ministry of Education, the key project of the Natural Science Fund of Yunnan Province, the major special projects of the Department of Education Fund of Yunnan Province, and industry collaboration projects.  The lab has published more than 150 articles at domestic and international journals and conferences, more than 80 of which are indexed by SCI or EI.  It has been authorized 2 invention patents and 65 software copyright registrations. It won a first prize of Yunnan Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress Award, a second prize of the Yunnan Province Natural Science Award and a third prize of the Yunnan Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress Award.  It has made a number of innovations in many real-world applications, which include Chinese question answering system in the restricted domain, experts retrieval, the minority corpus and knowledge base construction, the Vietnamese corpus and the knowledge base construction, natural language voice question answering system, entrance examination information platform of Yunnan Province, and the information platform of standardization administration of Yunnan Province.

The innovation team of intelligent information processing of Kunming University of Science and Technology is a university innovation team that was selected and approved by Kunming University of Science and Technology in 2009.  Professor Yu Zhengtao is the team's chief professor.  The team uses the scientific research platform of the KUST key laboratory of intelligent information processing.  Currently, the team has more than 50 researchers, including 5 professors, 6 associate professors, 5 lecturers, and 8 research scientists with a Ph.D. degree. The team has more than 40 Ph.D. and M.S. candidates.

The Innovation Team of Information Detection and Processing of Kunming University of Science and Technology
 The innovation team of information detection and processing focuses its research on testing & measuring technologies and automation devices.  It’s mainly engaged in three research areas: sensor & detection technologies, signal processing & network computing, and pervasive computing. By integrating sensor technologies, computer technologies and network communication technologies together, the team aims to make integrated innovations at system-level. The team believes that this kind of innovations will have a bigger impact on real-world applications. The team focuses on engineering applications, such as photoelectric detection & conversion, image recognition & monitoring, virtual instruments and other application research. Our research results have been widely applied to the metallurgical, power, petrochemical, transportation, tobacco and other industrial processes. The team is specialized in online detection, recognition, and processing of special parameters or states of industrial processes, which can provide reliable information sources for the real-time control and optimization of industrial processes. The team is the key driving force of MEMS Ph.D. program in the second level discipline. The team had applied the Ph.D. MEMS program and been authorized by the Kunming University of Science and Technology. This second level Ph.D. program could effectively support the establishment of the Computer Science & Technology Ph.D. program in the first level discipline. It improves the disciplinary layout of the school. And it could also support the establishment of other first level programs, such as instrument science and technology, optical engineering, and biomedical engineering.

 

The Research Team of Dependable Service Computing

Service-oriented computing (SOC) paradigm and its realization through standardized Web service technologies provide a promising solution for the seamless integration of single-function applications to create new large-granularity and value-added services. Web service and its composition attract industry’s attention and are applied in many domains, e.g., workflow management, e-Business, e-Government, and e-Science. Open and dynamic environments lead to inherently uncertainty of Web service QoS (Quality of Service). Thus, a set of software theories and technologies, which are suitable to open and dynamic nature of Internet, are needed to improve the availability, reliability and security of service composition such that the QoS requirements of user can be guaranteed. Taking the characters of service computing in respect of development, application, form of product and evolution into account, the team of dependable service computing devotes to research related theories, methods and technologies in design, development, and maintenance of SOC system. By this way, we hope the SOC system could dependably work in accordance of users’ expectations. The leader of the team is Dr. Xiaodong Fu and the team members include 2 professors, 2 associate professors and 2 lecturers. Five members of the team have received PhD degree and another one is a PhD candidate. The work of the team is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No. 71161015, 61262081, 60863004), the Applied Fundamental Research Project of Yunnan Province (No. 2009CD040, 2012FB137, 2012FB131), and the Key Project of Science Foundation of Education Department of Yunnan Province (No. 2010Z009).

 

The research team of Software Quality Assurance and Testing of Kunming University of Science and Technology

 The research team of software quality assurance and testing is part of software engineering discipline, which goal is to improve software quality. There are two main research areas in the team, including software modeling and analysis, software testing technology. In order to assure the quality of software development process and the product, the team aims at the research of key problems during the different phases of software development, such as software quality modeling, software formal modeling, software requirements analysis verification, software quality attribute evaluation methods, software product quality and testing. Since 2007, there are more than 40 papers published on the domestic and international journals and international conferences, including 17 papers indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP. 27 software developed by the team have been authorized by Copyright Protection Center of China. The team had undertake a number of national and provincial projects, including 2 projects of the National Science Foundation of China, 3 projects of the Application Basic Research Plan of Yunnan Province, 5 projects of the Science Research Fund of Education Department of Yunnan Province and 10 enterprise projects. There are some research achievements of the team have been applied in the education, telecommunications, transportation and other industries in Yunnan Province, which has established a solid foundation for the team’s construction and development.

 

Research Team on the Optimization, Scheduling and Control of Complex System

Our research team includes one professor, five associate professors, one lecturer, and 15 graduate students. Our current research interests include optimization theory, production scheduling, logistic optimization, system modeling and simulation, process control, and evolutionary algorithms. Up to now, we have been the principal investigator and the investigator for 17 research projects granted by the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the National 863 High-Tech Development Plan of China, the National 973 Sub-Project of China, the 2012 Academic and Technical Leader Candidate Project for Young and Middle-Aged Persons of Yunnan Province, and the Science Foundation of Yunnan Province, and have also participated more than 30 enterprise projects. These projects mainly belong to the fields of optimization, scheduling and control. To date we have published two academic books and more than 80 refereed papers. Two team members obtained the Second Prize for Progress in Science and Technology of Yunnan Province. Some of us have been the Reviewer for many international journals like European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Scheduling, International Journal of Production Research, Computers & Operations Research, Information Sciences, and Journal of Computational & Applied Mathematics.

 

Research Team of Complex Network Systems

Our research on Complex Network Systems investigates the internet of things oriented to industry, transportation, logistic applications. We start from the demands for network and communication, take system theory as the basic theory, and adopt the system analysis and integration technique to model and analyze the complex networked system. Based on the technique of object decomposition, coordination and synthetic, we explore the optimization techniques for complex networked systems, and finally provide a theoretical basis for optimization application of complex networked systems. Our research fields cover four sub directions, which are network behavior modeling and analysis, analysis and optimization of wireless mobile communication networks, optimization methods of distributed system, optimization algorithm research.

There are nine teachers in our research team, one Professor, four Associate Professors, two Lecturers, and two Assistant Experimentalists. Additionally, there are about 20 graduate students are supervised by our team. Up to now, our team members have been the project leader or primary researcher for more than 5 research projects granted by the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and the Science Foundation of Yunnan Province, and have participated more than 12 Enterprise projects. Over 50 journal or conference papers have been published, 36 of which have been indexed by SCI/EI/ISTP. Additionally, we set up a cooperation relationship with Dr. Luo Jun in Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and with Dr. Gao Xiaorong in Blekinge Institute of Technology in Swedish. We provide more chances for our team members to visit abroad to keep pace with those advanced laboratories.
